What is a septic system?

A septic system is an underground wastewater treatment system utilized for  homes not connected to a city sewer. Whenever you use water in your home—flushing the toilet, running the sink, taking a shower, or doing laundry—it flows through a pipe (inlet line) into the septic tank. Inside the tank, solids settle to the bottom while the liquid rises. When the water reaches a certain level (baffle line), it slowly flows out into a drain field (via the outlet line), where it’s naturally filtered and absorbed by the soil.
